EICR for landlords in Islington, Camden and Haringey
- An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) checks the fixed wiring, sockets, lights and consumer unit.
- Private landlords in England must have the electrics in a rented home checked at least every 5 years by a qualified person and give tenants proof of the check. The rules were extended to social landlords in 2025.
- If the report finds defects that need fixing, the landlord must arrange the remedial work. Ask whether the quote includes the report only or remedial work as well.
- Islington, Camden and Haringey all run additional HMO licensing, and Islington and Haringey also run selective licensing in some wards. Licence applications usually ask for a current EICR.

If you buy at home or by phone, you usually have a 14 day right to cancel under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, but if you ask for work to start straight away you may have to pay for work already done.
