Rewiring in Islington, Camden and Haringey
- Signs that a rewire may be needed include old rubber or fabric covered cable, a fuse box with rewireable fuses, no RCD protection, and sockets on skirting boards.
- A rewire is notifiable work under Part P of the Building Regulations. The electrician should be registered with a competent person scheme or notify building control, and give you a certificate.
- In a conversion flat, wiring in the common parts and the supply to your meter may belong to the freeholder.
- Ask for a written quote that covers making good plaster, any new consumer unit, and the certificate.

If you buy at home or by phone, you usually have a 14 day right to cancel under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, but if you ask for work to start straight away you may have to pay for work already done.
